Mrs. Lankford is currently one of the fourth grade teachers at Mazie Gable Elementary. Her focus areas are Science and Writing. This is her thirteenth year teaching, spending the last eleven years in fourth grade. She is no stranger to the intense Environmentally-based curriculum of fourth grade standards, as she graduated from Slippery Rock University with degrees in both Elementary Education and Environmental Education. Creating stewards of the environment is one of her greatest passions and she challenges her students to think critically about the natural world. Mrs. Lankford earned her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership in 2014 from Millersville University. Your student will be working in a classroom that focuses on the Growth Mindset. Mrs. Lankford is an advocate of failure allowing the brain to grow. Expect your child to be challenged in skills related to collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, research, innovation, and problem solving.
The Outdoor Classroom (located between the fourth and fifth grade hallways) was a project she began nine years ago and still has great dreams of getting students learning while outdoors. Each year more is added to the space to encourage teachers, students, and families to spend time experiencing real learning beyond the walls of the classroom. Currently there is a pavilion with picnic tables, an eight bed garden, compost bins, rain barrels, a butterfly garden, and native tree species. Coming this fall will be a rock and mineral study area and in the spring a native tree study. She is always looking for ideas and volunteers, but mostly just people to use the space!
On a personal note, Mrs. Lankford loves spending time with her family and being outdoors as much as possible. During the summer, she runs an initiative, GONE (Go Outdoors in Nature and Explore). Her goal is to encourage families to spend time in nature together, learning and exploring.
Being an athlete her whole life, she continues to find ways to stay active, whether it be a soccer league or a "family-friendly" volleyball game, you can even catch her on the kickball field during recess every once in awhile.
