Meet Mrs. Lankford. She is currently one of the fourth grade teachers at Mazie Gable Elementary. Her focus areas are Math and Science. Her classroom has a STEM focus where Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math are integrated. This is her ninth year teaching, spending the last seven years in fourth grade. She is no stranger to the intense Environmentally-based curriculum as she graduated from Slippery Rock University with degrees in both Elementary Education and Environmental Education. Creating stewards of the environment is one of her greatest passions and she challenges her students to think critically about the natural world. Mrs. Lankford earned her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership in 2014 from Millersville University. Your student will be working in a classroom with a focus on the Growth Mindset. Mrs. Lankford is an advocate of failure allowing the brain to grow. Expect your child to be challenged in skills related to collaboration, communication, critical thinking, creativity, research, innovation, and problem solving.
Last year was a great year for Mrs. Lankford as Mazie Gable won the Scotties Trees Rock competition and was granted $10,000 to spend towards Gable’s Outdoor Classroom. The Outdoor Classroom was a project she began five years ago and still has great dreams of getting students learning outdoors. Additionally, she was selected for the Mickelson Exxon Mobile Teacher’s Academy and Shippensburg Outstanding Teacher Award.
On a personal note, Mrs. Lankford and her husband are anticipating the arrival of their third child this fall. Charlotte and Evelyn (almost four and 1 1/2) are eager to welcome their baby brother. Mrs. Lankford loves spending time with her growing family and being outdoors as much as possible. Being an athlete her whole life, she continues to find ways to stay active, whether it be a competitive kickball league or a "family-friendly" volleyball game.
